A chance to relive 9/11

Posted in Broadcasting and Media by Adam Westbrook on September 11, 2006

CNN 9/11 coverage stillshotA quick obligatory 9/11 memorial post today. The media, as usual, is going all out on coverage of the memorial services in the U.S., and for some inexplicable reason it leads BBC News Online’s front page. However, one 9/11 memorial event has struck me. Today, CNN are showing their coverage of the attacks in real time, on their Pipeline video service.

From 08:48am Eastern Time (13:48 GMT) today, viewers can log on and watch events unfold again, as they happened.

It’s possibly the most interesting event all the networks worldwide have come up with and it provides a unique chance to watch the day again with those handy hindsight goggles on. Some might call it tastleless, but for the nostalgic among us, it gives the chance to watch the exact minute (09:03am) that the world changed.

Also of interest, the 15 hours of live streaming occasionally cuts out to be replaced by a graphic. “Some of our footage has been lost” says a voice over.

The conspiracy theorists are gonna love that.

Yeah, that’s so not true. I wonder if they’re just ashamed about having shown adverts?
